Dr. Matthew Phillips is Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at UNC Charlotte. He received his PhD in Criminal Justice from SUNY Albany, and served as an intelligence analyst for US Intelligence Community. His principal research interests include transnational organized crime, terrorism, human trafficking, drug trafficking, drug offending and violence, data science, and quantitative and statistical methods. He is also researching the application of big data initiatives to the analysis of crime, particularly within in the realm of national security. He has recently published in the Washington Post, Journal of Criminological Research, Policy, and Practice, and Journal of Quantitative Criminology.
