Yi Deng, Ph.D.
Dr. Yi Deng is the Dean and Professor of the College of Computing and Informatics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, a position he has held since July 2009. He had been the Dean and Professor of the School of Computing and Information Sciences at Florida International University (FIU). DR. Deng has authored or co-authored over 100 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and proceedings, and been awarded numerous research grants as the principal or co-principal investigator totaling over $21 million. He has led many large scale multidisciplinary R&D and education projects and initiatives and founded and/or directed several research centers. He has been an active contributor to professional society and community in various leadership capacities, with extensive experience collaborating with industry. He co-founded and co-led the Latin American Grid (LA Grid) Consortium, and founded and directed the Consortium of Partnership for International Research and Education (PIRE), whose partners include leading institutions and research centers in the U.S., Mexico, Argentina, Spain, France, China, India, and Japan. Dr. Deng received the Charlotte Business Journal’s 2015 CIO Award for Academic Leadership. He serves on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Technology Association, and on the National Science Foundation PIRE Program Evaluation Advisory Board. Yi Deng received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 1990 and 1992, respectively.
